Winter Update
————————————————————————–
It has been a busy few weeks in Calgary. The first major snow storms have hit. A ‘pesticide’ ban was diluted and then voted down. The mayor proposed and passed voluntary campaign finance reform measures, and some strange talk of dog park user fees has popped up.
My campaign team is assembling and initial organizational meetings have started. The volunteer list is growing weekly. If you or someone you know are interested in volunteering for my campaign for Alderman in Calgary’s Ward 8, please email me at zak@zakpashak.ca.
Volunteer positions can take as much time as you have available- from helping get the word out on Oct 18 2010, to starting now and getting involved with the strategy and implementation of the campaign. You don’t need to live in Ward 8 to take part.
I have been meeting regularly with community members. If you have an issue or area of concern, or if you just want to sit down and talk about about your neighborhood, I would be glad to try to set up a time for coffee with you or your group. I have met some amazing people so far.
As I wrap up 2009, I am busy making plans to facilitate a conversation inspired by Ald. Hawkesworth’s event this past Halloween (read more here: http://blog.hawkesworth.com/). It will be held January 28, 2010 from 7-11pm at the #1 legion downtown. Mark your calendars! This will be a great opportunity to meet other Calgarians and have what should be a lively conversation. More details will be posted as we get closer to the the 28th. It’s going to be a fun, constructive, night.
Lastly- for Christmas this year, instead of gifts (although ‘homeslicers’ look pretty great) I will be donating money to Momentum. I encourage you to take to the time the look into the great work this organization is doing in Calgary. Their website is: www.momentum.org/
