Message from Peter Rishaug re: West Village ARP

————————————————————————–

Hello all,

Recently I have had the on-going opportunity to participate on the Community Advisory Committee for the West Village Area Redevelopment Plan as a community representative.

The City of Calgary Land Use Planning & Policy staff have now recently confirmed the details of the upcoming West Village ARP public open house.

I would encourage all interested parties and citizens to attend to share their ideas and input about this long-term plan to redevelop these very important lands west of the downtown core.

Please forward this Open House information out to your contact networks for those that may have an interest.

Date: Thursday, April 15, 2010

Time: 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Location: Sacred Heart School Gymnasium >  1312 – 15 St. SW

(conveniently located just west of 14th St. in the community of Sunalta)

Please use the link below to the City’s website for more information about the Plan and to download the PDF of theWest Village Introduction Brochure (linked on the right side of the page):

Background:

-          The West Village concept area consists of approximately 110 acres of land stretching from Shaw Millennium Park in the east, to Crowchild Trail in the west, between the CPR tracks to the south and the Bow River to the north.

-          Two major freeway routes, Bow Trail eastbound and Bow Trail westbound, run directly through the redevelopment area

-          The area includes the Greyhound Bus Terminal which has recently been purchased by the City of Calgary

-          approx. 90% of the West Village Plan area is within the Sunalta community boundaries

-          Beginning in late 2012, this area will be serviced by the Sunalta Station (to be located at 10th Avenue & 16th St S.W.)

-          This will be the first Station along the new West LRT line outside the western portion of the downtown core
