Nurturing the Arts in Calgary
As Alderman of Ward 8, Zak Pashak would support the ARTS by:
- Increasing cultural space inventory
o Through amendment of corporate properties business plan to include large subsidies to non-profit arts and culture groups who occupy City-owned spaces that are slotted for eventual demolition ie. current location of Artpoint Gallery and Studios in Inglewood and any empty or under-utilized city-owned buildings acquired as part of C-Train expansions
o Increasing space through amendment to IP2007 to include a definition for cultural use that can be attached to all land use designations – to make it easier for artists and arts groups to set up shop in land uses that currently provide no definition for cultural uses ie. industrial areas where arts groups would set up shop but currently can not because of unduly restrictive land use policies
o Continuing to support and expand on density incentives when incorporating non-profit and cultural spaces into development projects
- Continuing Support for Calgary’s Arts Organizations
o Continuing to support Calgary Arts Development, our municipal arts funding agency
- Supporting Individual Artists in Calgary
-
- Calgary Arts Development to receive targeted funding of $50,000 annually to reinstate the project grant program whereby individual artists can access small grants for individual projects
- Fighting for affordable housing options in Calgary so that ACAD, MRU and U of C grads can find affordable space to live and where they can apply their trades and skills
